"Do you mean ter tell me," he growled at the Dursleys, "that this boy -- this boy! -- knows nothin' abou' -- about ANYTHING?"
Do I need to have read all 7 Harry Potter books?
While having read the books is not a requirement it is strongly suggested that all players have done so. Failure to be up to date with the books might result in player confusion regarding the fates of specific characters or new spells and magical procedures. Also, if you haven't read through Deathly Hallows you're likely to find spoilers, and we wouldn't want that.
Do I need to create an account for each character?
You may if you wish, but we don't require it.
How many characters can I have?
The total number of characters a member chooses to play is entirely up to the individual although the administration does suggest that users only take on as many characters as they have time to regularly role play with.
Can I play a book character?
Yes. Go here to see if the character you would like to audition for is taken, and if they are not follow the procedure in the thread to audition for them.
If I play a Book Character do I need to post a certain amount?
We don't have a specific amount that BC players must post with their canon characters, but if your account is deleted due to inactivity you will lose rights to the canon character and they will be opened up to audition.
When is the RPG set?
The RPG is set after Deathly Hallows.
What do the letters and numbers beside character names mean?
The code stands for what sort of character it is. Hogwarts students are marked with a letter and a number to mark their house and year - for example, R7 for a Ravenclaw seventh year or G3 for a Gryffindor third year. Other characters are marked with an O to indicate they are not Hogwarts students, or they may have a common profession abbreviation such as DP for the Daily Prophet or MoM for the Ministry of Magic.
Can my character be an animagus? Or a metamorphmagus?
Yes, but the number of these characters will be very limited due to the rarity of these two special abilities in the wizarding world.
Can I speak parseltounge? Goblin? Mermish? Any other unique language?
No to Parseltongue. Yes to everything else, so long as your character has a good reason to do so.
Can I be a professor?
Absolutely! There are many canon professors available, or if you wish to play an original professor you simply fill out the adult bio form the same as usual, with the class you would like to teach in the Occupation field, i.e. Transfiguration professor. (If a canon character already occupies this slot, the admins will come up with a reason why the position would be open.) You may also introduce new classes by including a description of the class in your biography.
Can I be a werewolf?
Absolutely. Adult characters can be werewolves without asking, but those who wish to create a student werewolf character need to check with the Admins in the CTA first.
Can I be a nonhuman? (Veela, Giant, Goblin, Centaur, Ghost, Dementor, half-breed of anykind)
Yes, except for the dementor. Dementors have no souls and thus would make very boring characters. You may play any of the rest, however.
Do I have to start my character out as a first year? Do I have to let the Sorting Hat pick my character's House?
No, and no. IC of course your character will have started at Hogwarts as a first year and be sorted by the Hat, as they all do. But OOC you are free to make up all those details yourself.
My character is a Quidditch player, can I say they are on the team?
Yes, for now.
Can my character be a Prefect or Head Boy/Girl?
Yes, they can be. But they will be chosen, rather than applied for. You can, of course, register your interest in this position by stating it in the bio.
Can my character be homosexual/bisexual?
Why not? We ain't discriminatin'.
Can I be Harry Potter's unknown evil sister who is the love child of Voldemort and Albus Dumbledore and who wants nothing more then to dismember and eat the flesh of the Boy Who Lived?
No. Not only is the prospect anatomically impossible as well as in violation of the no book character relations rule, it is also a Mary Sue of the worst kind. Characters with such ridiculous backgrounds will have their bios deleted on sight.
Can my original character be related to a Book Character?
Tentatively, yes. People seeking their characters to be the relative of a Book Character must receive special permission from the Administrators and from the player of the book character in question.
